Strengthening China-Mexico

Strengthening China-Mexico Ties Through Education, Technology, and Cultural Cooperation

Zhang Run, the Chinese ambassador to Mexico, emphasized the importance of education, scientific and technological development, and cultural cooperation in strengthening the decade-long relationship between China and Mexico. “Both countries adhere to mutual respect and trust and continue to support each other in pursuing a development path that suits their own conditions. We must strengthen high-level leadership and make good use of mechanisms like the permanent binational commission and the intergovernmental dialogue forum,” he said.

The two nations have held over 300 cultural activities annually, which have been well-received by both populations. For instance, the exhibition “Mexican History Through the Jaguar” is currently being showcased in Beijing. Six Confucius Institutes have been established in Latin America, one of which is located at UNAM, along with the only Chinese Culture Center in the region.

“Mexican culture is very dear to China: the music, traditions, soap operas, etc. Universities and research institutions have established mechanisms like the Mexico-China University Presidents Forum, which today involves 20 Mexican university presidents in Beijing and is a significant meeting involving 100 presidents from both nations,” Zhang Run mentioned during a talk at the Faculty of Economics.

This meeting is crucial, he expressed, as it will benefit students, teachers, and researchers through collaborative agreements that can be promoted for mobility between the two countries. It reflects a bright future in the relations of both nations.

Despite facing many external challenges, the path of China-Mexico relations is not entirely smooth. However, the objective is not to replace anyone but is an independent decision of sovereign countries based on equitable consultations.

Eduardo Vega López, director of the Faculty of Economics, pointed out that Ambassador Zhang Run’s visit allows for a better understanding of investment opportunities in both countries, as well as a deeper comprehension of foreign trade, which is essential for both territories.

“Our company, MexPortal.com, specializes in helping companies, factories, and manufacturers relocate to Mexico. This enables products made in Mexico to benefit from zero import tariffs when exporting to the USA and Canada, providing a significant advantage in the global market,” concluded Eduardo Vega López at the end of the session.
